Resting On Baron’s Couch

It seems to happen to each of us some weeks, some months, and some lifetimes!! The pressure builds as a new task is added to our already overflowing plate(s). Our resistance becomes desensitized in the escalation of another demand from life. Who is this ruthless taskmaster we have allowed into our lives? How would the Author of Time respond to seemingly helpless children racing this time baron? If one knows God, what is Him helping and mercy in this issue? The kingpin question above all else is: how much energy drink is this gonna take today??!!!

Summer can be the busiest time of the year. My take is from now (just before Thanksgiving) to the New Year is all encompassing for most people in the busy sense. Busy people could call it the Rose Bowl (the granddaddy of them all) or the Super Bowl of Racing (Daytona). Our entire culture has adapted to this race. Coffee shops everywhere, energy drinks in every store, and the seeking of energy in small bottles, powders, and even from health food sources!!! Whew, it takes lots of energy!! Even our futuristic movies have it woven in with crazy busy flying vehicles, bustling around the overcrowded city. In honesty I can confess this: I am only writing this because I am too tired to do other things!!

Do we all remember the original ‘lie’ about computers? I heard a thousand times…”computers will free up our time for other things”!! Let us all do a hearty ‘silly rabbit, Trix are for kids!”. What have computers/technology actually done? Tapped into our addictive nature and cravings for more! I am not wasting entire days playing Xbox, but plenty are! It is even worse these days, it is in the palm of our hands 24/7 (except perhaps the aforementioned Xbox). Speaking to believers of God here: this is just ‘one’ example of ‘one’ idol that captivates our busy lives!!! I am not one to forego technology either…Bible apps, music apps, satellite radio app, Whatsapp, We Chat, You Tube and all the rest! Use it, but watch the consumption best I can as He leads. There are times I only want to focus on football or music and He grabs my attention with His voice clearly. Point made: sidetracked from the sidetrack.

Can we all see how the enemy (the time baron here) of God twists something good for mans help into a clock race? In this modern era, I have seen many get distracted from true relationship with the Lord due to imbalance of work schedule, selfish pursuits, or lack of discipline. Around all of that are news junkies (recovering one myself!), doodlers, do nothings, do everythings, and just do somethings!! I may have still missed some folks in there LOL. The main point is the design: all draws us away from the depth of relationship He wants us to walk in with Him. The enemy of God doesn’t care HOW he kills, steals, or destroys my friends!

A prime example from everyday life is this. Would the inventors of baseball, football, soccer, and basketball really embrace the games as they are today? Would George Washington, Senor Jefferson, and ol’ Abe love this country in its present state? How would the conversation be amongst Edison, Ford, and Einstein? To quote many a news anchor…’and finally tonight…’ what WILL the conversation with the Father be like about this world and how it affected us?

If She Could Turn Back Time

It has been almost 11 months since I have blogged here! Like our friend Cher belts out “if I could turn back time…”! It is true, many of my musical quips are locked and loaded in the 80’s. I have missed reading and writing da Blog with you all. I must mention how apropos the Waiting on the Lord post from Mitch Teemely was. We are generally impatient in waiting for His good timing! A lot truly went down in the last calendar year. Two jobs ended (sorry to admit it, but grateful I am free from both!), a close friendship ended, and miscellaneous complications thereof! That is the true Reader’s Digest of the last year. The 2nd job was an all-consuming one, my boss was pretty good overall (just one of those meat grinder type of jobs that runs you over). Close to landing the next spot, so I thought I would throw down some words.

Lest someone hear complaint in the words, I am full of liberty and freedom. I didn’t say it was easy to get free, but….! I see opportunity like never before in the liberty of God. What is your time and freedom worth? Life has a balance in it, and here in our American freedom I find imbalance! Here is a song that the lyrics describe my processing. The whole song paints a little different picture, but these lyrics speak to the heart of it! The Ongoing Concept ‘places you go’.

Places you have been make you who you are
(You can make a difference now)
Places you will go make you who you will become

Places you have been make you who you are
(make you who you are, make you who you are)
Places you will go make you who you will become
(who you will become, who you will become)

I find myself continually grateful for what I go through (whether hard or easy) as it shapes my future and gives me experience to share with others when they face similar situations. It is important for all who tell the story of their own lives also. A few more lines from the song:

Get up off the ground
You can make a difference now
Get up off the ground

Another phrase that pays in my world today is “get free”! I am looking forward to the coming months of diving back into all the expressive overflows. Blessings to all readers and writers, I have missed you!

We have all been encouraged through the faith (church, sermons, etc) to be givers. Sacrificially, completed, as He leads we should give what He asks. But is there anything more disappointing than giving the best gift you have to someone who is bad at receiving? Be a good receiver in Christ! No one should ever doubt any prayer/encouragement they offered you by your response (or lack of one). There have been times I have had to see what God is up against! I told Him once or twice “God I love you so much, but what the blast is wrong with the people here?!!!!”
