Resting On Baron’s Couch

It seems to happen to each of us some weeks, some months, and some lifetimes!! The pressure builds as a new task is added to our already overflowing plate(s). Our resistance becomes desensitized in the escalation of another demand from life. Who is this ruthless taskmaster we have allowed into our lives? How would the Author of Time respond to seemingly helpless children racing this time baron? If one knows God, what is Him helping and mercy in this issue? The kingpin question above all else is: how much energy drink is this gonna take today??!!!

Summer can be the busiest time of the year. My take is from now (just before Thanksgiving) to the New Year is all encompassing for most people in the busy sense. Busy people could call it the Rose Bowl (the granddaddy of them all) or the Super Bowl of Racing (Daytona). Our entire culture has adapted to this race. Coffee shops everywhere, energy drinks in every store, and the seeking of energy in small bottles, powders, and even from health food sources!!! Whew, it takes lots of energy!! Even our futuristic movies have it woven in with crazy busy flying vehicles, bustling around the overcrowded city. In honesty I can confess this: I am only writing this because I am too tired to do other things!!

Do we all remember the original ‘lie’ about computers? I heard a thousand times…”computers will free up our time for other things”!! Let us all do a hearty ‘silly rabbit, Trix are for kids!”. What have computers/technology actually done? Tapped into our addictive nature and cravings for more! I am not wasting entire days playing Xbox, but plenty are! It is even worse these days, it is in the palm of our hands 24/7 (except perhaps the aforementioned Xbox). Speaking to believers of God here: this is just ‘one’ example of ‘one’ idol that captivates our busy lives!!! I am not one to forego technology either…Bible apps, music apps, satellite radio app, Whatsapp, We Chat, You Tube and all the rest! Use it, but watch the consumption best I can as He leads. There are times I only want to focus on football or music and He grabs my attention with His voice clearly. Point made: sidetracked from the sidetrack.

Can we all see how the enemy (the time baron here) of God twists something good for mans help into a clock race? In this modern era, I have seen many get distracted from true relationship with the Lord due to imbalance of work schedule, selfish pursuits, or lack of discipline. Around all of that are news junkies (recovering one myself!), doodlers, do nothings, do everythings, and just do somethings!! I may have still missed some folks in there LOL. The main point is the design: all draws us away from the depth of relationship He wants us to walk in with Him. The enemy of God doesn’t care HOW he kills, steals, or destroys my friends!

A prime example from everyday life is this. Would the inventors of baseball, football, soccer, and basketball really embrace the games as they are today? Would George Washington, Senor Jefferson, and ol’ Abe love this country in its present state? How would the conversation be amongst Edison, Ford, and Einstein? To quote many a news anchor…’and finally tonight…’ what WILL the conversation with the Father be like about this world and how it affected us?

Depressuralizational Bearings

How do we de-pressure life? A wildly large topic to just leap off the bridge into the icy waters with I know, but it is one I have been chewing on for some time. It’s a Wednesday night after Survivor and my wife and I will catch the show called Seal (or Seal team?) before we fade out. It brings me to the point early on here, both shows revolve around pressure in and of themselves. Survivor is the ultimate social pressure game and being special ops military is as we know ‘life altering pressure’. It is plain to me that we all have gifted to us a different level of capabilities in handling pressure naturally. I don’t know about most of you, but this guy already knows if he took his wife on Amazing Race our episode ends with us driving off the cliff after making a tragic wrong turn Thelma and Louise style!!!

If you’ve ever read a single thing I’ve shared, you can probably guess what the other side of the coin is: supernatural! What then is the complex make up of supernatural pressure? I shared in one of the R.W.B. Pearls once about our pressures related to the function of a water heater. The water flows in, it is heated in a tank built for pressurization, and flows on to source out hot water. The main thing you will notice on a standard water heater is the Pressure Relief Valve (I think some call it a T&P also). The pressure from within builds up and basically needs an outlet so the tank doesn’t explode or whatever it would do in failure. The pressure hits a point where it pushes the valve open, but only when that pressure is released.

Our life is similar to that water heater. We are just good ol’ cold water flowin’ chill like the underside of the pillow. We would love to say in this cool state without putting so much hot pressure on us to keep up with all the pressures of life. There are a myriad of pressures: our problems, others problems, our work, our dreams, our attempts to help others, and hello…relationships in general!! The good news is I have found something that has helped me no matter the pressure. There are times I am just wide awake at 2 or 3 in the morning. I can feel when there is pressure going on and what I need to do. I have learned that Jesus wants to take these pressures from me because He has a pressure-less tank! I am able to tell Him my problems, issues, and He gives me peace. Who doesn’t want peace?

This isn’t by any means an easy process! Words cannot describe all I feel at times. There are days I just have to wrestle it out a lot…but if I don’t learn to do that, the pressure just increases. We can all think of someone we know that shows signs of the pressure affecting their lives significantly. If you’ve ever met someone who has faced some serious battles in their lives, how they dealt with (or didn’t) the pressure shaped their path going forward. It all comes to a tipping point: what is your foundation of life set upon? For me personally, I can only see Jesus helping me…I simply can’t see anything else. There are days it takes some time to sort things out, but in that process I learn trust and it leads to peace. I do believe anyone can have the same peace. It doesn’t make thing perfect and off the chain, but it will de-pressurize a lot of the weight you carry.

I do invite you to share what helps you. It’s ok if it’s a little different or you don’t understand Jesus at all (many do not). I know there have been a lot of poor reps for Jesus out there, but I also know Truth is not relative! Thinkin’ this is one of those multi parters my friends. I realized in starting this one it could have went a million directions.

R.W.B. Pearls 12-16-17

We have all been encouraged through the faith (church, sermons, etc) to be givers. Sacrificially, completed, as He leads we should give what He asks. But is there anything more disappointing than giving the best gift you have to someone who is bad at receiving? Be a good receiver in Christ! No one should ever doubt any prayer/encouragement they offered you by your response (or lack of one). There have been times I have had to see what God is up against! I told Him once or twice “God I love you so much, but what the blast is wrong with the people here?!!!!”

R.W.B. Pearls 12-2-17 (#3)

Everybody here has a passion. We cannot all fully pursue each other’s passions except when the Holy Spirit leads you to. WE MUST know (or learn) who we are in a vacuum (just you and He in the prayer closet peeps!). Meetings are just overflow!!! Do you remember when David tried to wear Saul’s armor? How did that work out? Had to scrap that metal!!! The Word is clear that we are all different functions in the Body…Hand is not foot, foot is not hand. The Body is strong when we all are affirmed at our function in it. I have personally witnessed it too many times…people who don’t totally know who they are in Him try to be a hand or foot because the strong leader is that…8 feet causes stumbling.

R.W.B. Pearls 12-2-17 (#1)

The funny reason I am posting a lot these few days is…one of the few things I can do while home sick! This post is pretty ‘fat’ for a pearl. I can’t thank everyone enough for the likes, they make me 🙂 and keep me going!!

I know I say this a lot “the Body is designed to feed the Body”…but it has many layers. Everything the Body gives you has to be FUELED by Holy Spirit. If it is not, it is merely ‘well, this worked for me’ stuff…which is not truly affirmation. Sometimes we do share something that worked for us, but it must be Holy Spirit leading the charge to share that, not OUR wisdom. Affirmation in the Body is not designed to come from people, only sharing what the Holy Spirit says THROUGH people TO people. It should be life giving answers! And it should not create dependency on any one person. That is a major issue in the Church right now…people all rally around ‘their guy’. We should be quick to support our pastors, don’t hear me wrong there…we just shouldn’t be counting on his affirmation for everything…that should come through the Body. Simply put…we the Body are here to put fuel in your tank for your journey, not make a clone that looks like the rest of us!!!

Sitting Down at Pavlov’s Last Supper (a Halloween story??)

The indelible pictures of history coming in for this one. Who doesn’t remember the crude drawn cartoon in their history book about Pavlov’s dog? One of the first pillars of psychology and probably in the textbook of every American student growing up (there may be periods of time that has ceased, one of you young buckeroos let me know!). The science started simple enough. Dog sees food, dog salivates, dog eats. What surprised our friend Ivan was the associations beyond the food. The dog began salivating seeing the glorious lab assistant walking in the room, food or not. This is known as Pavlovian Conditioning…Dr. Google brought this up first so I wanted to quote a small section to ‘buttress my answer’ as one of my college professors used to opine.

“During the 1890’s Russian physiologist Ivan Pavlov was looking at salivation in dogs in response to being fed, when he noticed that his dogs would begin to salivate whenever he entered the room, even when he was not bringing them food. At first this was something of a nuisance (not to mention messy!).

Pavlovian Conditioning

Pavlov (1902) started from the idea that there are some things that a dog does not need to learn. For example, dogs don’t learn to salivate whenever they see food. This reflex is ‘hard-wired’ into the dog. In behaviorist terms, it is an unconditioned response.” Later it says “However, when Pavlov discovered that any object or event which the dogs learned to associate with food (such as the lab assistant) would trigger the same response, he realized that he had made an important scientific discovery…” (McLeod, S.A. (2013). Pavlov’s dogs. Retrieved from www.simplypsychology.org/pavlov.html).

Observation of people lately has me arriving at some connections to Ivan’s discovery. This is going to be a strange 3-way fork in the road here. What else would you call a fork with Pavlov, Godly renewal, and Halloween together? Hey, it’s Halloween this week, why not something with Truth and some strange parallels? We have a culture that is obsessed with dark matter. You can see it this time of year obviously, but it has spilled over heavily into video games, movies, music, and every form of entertainment. What is generally overlooked here is that most everything in the world has spiritual ramifications to it. A short journey of these three is next, but the question is…WHO is making you salivate?

Pavlovian Conditioning is a spiritual parallel to me. It could mirror what the Bible calls ‘the world, the flesh, and the devil.’ All of us face the challenge of becoming conditioned in our lives. If you talk to someone who grew up abused for instance: they can speak to the conditioning, control, and just evil that took place. I needed an extreme example to make the point. God knew the world we were going to face (yes, even these modern times). It was why He sent Jesus to help us against the conditioning of this world. Like it or not, we are living down here with God’s enemy. It is where he landed when kicked out of heaven! All the troubles of the entire planet boil down to ‘conditioning’. Consider a serial killer or any extremist…a lot of things happened in that person’s life to lead them there. A more subtle form of conditioning? Simply put…the news!! Everyday a barrage of bad people, bad things, and evil around the world through corruption, etc. It wears down our senses and conditions us to lower standards.

The question I asked myself in chewing on this topic is: What is the good opposite of this conditioning to me as a believer in Christ? The opposite to me in the kingdom of God is renewal. The crux of renewal in the Bible is renewing of the mind. The mind is the gateway to the heart and spirit of a man. It is where ALL battles are won and lost. God and the enemy are fighting over control for your soul, but it starts in the mind. Temptation does not start in your soul, but in your mind. How we think and what we allow ourselves to dwell on mentally shape us (dare I say condition?). I won’t be able to do a whole journey here on renewal, just showing that it is the battle armor to put on against the influences of your mind. I know for me, the only way I am here and in my right mind in God is because of His helping me. I had to surrender a lot (well, everything) of my own understanding and will to receive this (and the battle rages). I know this is a whopin’ huge subject that is only scratched here.

You are probably perplexed to the tie in with Halloween of all things. Halloween is the representation of things dark and scary in our culture. It does have spiritual ties that are not in any way good. I do believe that allowing kids to do simply trick or treat stuff is not a big deal. There are those who practice anti-God spiritual stuff. It comes in various forms. Many from this vantage point believe they are ‘free’ from religion, but in fact are being conditioned by the world. I do believe that people are spiritually wired and many use that in a non-Christian way. I know people who are believers in Christ now who USED to be that way. They would sense spiritual things when they were kids all the time. If you read about Jesus and the man with the legions of demons, you see He helped him get free from everything that was not God. So there is hope for those who are spiritually wired and seeking something good from God!

Sometimes there are just many rabbits for the trail! This could be a very involved subject of many pages. Most of my writings I don’t want that! If people can’t last more than 6 minutes on a tv show they like without distraction, how long can they read LOL??!! My desire is for people to question what is conditioning them in their lives. If we are the dogs in the experiment, WHO do you want to be your Pavlov? Jesus said “I am the way, the Truth, and the life”. I am here to say that is good enough for me!
