Re;Pink Part Deux

Who doesn’t like open doors when He really pushes them? Yesterday was a rush peeps! I had residents at work anxious to give me stuff (pie, treasures, etc!), a guy my age pushing the door wide open to receive the fuller Spirit…God just was awesome in that and I think I have a new bud too! God had already brought him in thru working with my wife. So I wasn’t a total stranger and had met him before, we had a lot of connection points. He was really pushing us to connect, I was almost resistant because I was supposed to be working harder! This dude is just pouring out one thing after another as if we was bros from way back! It was strange because I am not one to ask for stuff like this, but He knew how much this would all touch my heart with His! I agree with my brother’s take…when you match up a gift for your child to the love to go with it, you buy it and watch them explode with excitement! God knows His children better than they know themselves that is for sure!

Speaking of the ol’ blood pumper, that is why we be here…the heart. The heart is essential to physical life itself…it is also key for spiritual temperature. If our hearts are off we are a little cold temped there. It represents so many things in our existence! What does God end up judging as our total time on earth…what was in our hearts that was forgiven/not forgiven, and every deed that comes out of it. If I say to you “something’s not right with that dude, he has a black heart”, you get what I’m saying. I do believe in some physical correlation between a truly broken heart and a serious heart condition medically for instance. I’m not making Gospel out of that, one of those eternal truths verified in the sky! Ok, gotta highlight that…when we hit the mysteries peeps…”verify in the sky”.

I have a lot of stories to share yet about life from my view (the cheap seats). I want each of you to truly understand that God needs to remain that…God. I have watched many a good person throw themselves 100 mph into a wall trying to discover some mystery that they weren’t entitled to from the start. You MUST enjoy the process of change! God DOES NOT CHANGE but you better be. He is jealous and we are to be obedient. I have done flat crazy in the moment in the name of God and obedience. I didn’t have time to freakin’ contemplate the theological ramifications of blah, blah, blah! That is the other crowd…praying about what they might be praying for Him to maybe do!

I ask the question: What is the start of revival? It truly starts in the heart! I truly believe that is the heartbeat of the whole revival vibe, changing hearts as leaders first and then leading the change for others. Destiny of the heart…hmmmm.

Through our hearts He changes/rearranges/and shows us more! That is the concept of Re;Pink…a regeneration of our hearts in Him. As I was reading Ephesians 1 this morning my heart is like “whoa never saw that before!”…because He has opened up another part of me heart (yaaaa man can u dig it?). I am seeing a correlation between new revealed knowledge in Him and more of the gifts He has blessed me with.

In being consistent here…I think I am almost to the main point (hallelujah chorus)! Not that it finally is here, but that He is crescendo-ing nicely. How can you not enjoy the process!!!!???? I have been anxious to share what happened last week from Good Friday til about Monday, and part 3 will hopefully hit the mark!

Re;Pink

The first question that pops into my head in beginning this word bomb is ‘what REALLY is inner healing with God’? My friends and I may throw it around, but do trust me, many do not go around saying things like…’hey dude, how’s the inner healing rollin’ today?’ or…’let’s do some inner healing over some Starbucks’…or…try this on date night…’how about we work on some inner healing between dinner and the 8:30 movie?’. Somehow there must be a way He takes us to our need for it, a pathway, previously unseen opening before us like an open road adventure. ‘Honey, I’m not sure I’m feeling like an inner healing tonight!’

I think we have all been there before. The crossroads of tough decisions bearing down on us. I know I do this…I give it a good wrestling in my spirit man (as if he needs the exercise!), perhaps so God knows I am meaning business here! I have heard it said and I kind of chuckle whenever I hear it “God hasn’t fallen off the throne dealing with your little issue”. It is something conceptually I have learned about Him and I find true-He doesn’t grade on a curve, and there aren’t levels of severity. He is Lord over the big and small and that covers it all. Why the heck we get soooo worked up over a seemingly bigger problem goes well beyond the size of my head. Why is it so challenging for us pea brains to accept the power of victory that is right there?

I don’t know, just talking out loud here, but it seems that God does utilize some truth anyway from the phrase ‘desperate times call for…’. See, don’t even have to finish that one, we all know it. There is something to the desperate getting healed in the Word. I always see the obedience in it too. When Elijah shows up to ‘get help from the widow’ both their minds had to be racing a million miles a minute! ‘Oh sure, this ends well, I have to count on this widow feeding me her last meal instead of feeding her poor sons who are about to be property of someone else’. I am sure the widow’s mind is equally interesting…’ya, this guy is some prophet…but I better obey…but who does this? Comes in here asking to be fed first’. I guess that was more of an outer healing…Jesus had encounters with several that I would more determine the inner healing. The guy he freed of thousands of demons and sent them to seweycide…I would say that is a darn good inner healing-to go from gnashing of teeth, chains, etc, to testifying what Jesus did…that my friends is a good inner healing day!!!

What is it that takes our heart from a cold, black stone to a bright fleshly pink? A person can change a certain amount on their own. It is one thing to protect yourself from what’s happened in your life, to make good changes, and to separate yourself out. It requires supernatural assistance to have a genuine change in your heart. When Jesus was preparing to leave he said ‘I will leave you a helper’. The helper is the Holy Spirit. That is one of the many benefits of believing in Jesus. The Holy Spirit is there to help you live in victory, healing, and get free. I have heard a saying from some mentors in my life: the Holy Spirit is a gentleman, He comes when you ask. The unique thing about Christianity is the last shall be first. This means in this context that we must humble ourselves and surrender our baggage. If we were enough to start with, we would’ve already figured it out. He created a free will relationship that only works when we surrender and handed over to Him.

Off Monkey!

My son has always loved monkeys. The first time that he saw curious George, he was hooked! From that point on, everything was full on monkey. To this day he has a monkey collection of stuffed animals and truly enjoys all things monkey. The only thing I didn’t understand was the trip to the monkey zoo. In Santa Ana California there is a monkey zoo that is 75% monkeys! It has all types of different monkeys from all over the world. For some it for some inexplicable reason though, he just wasn’t in the monkey mood that day! My brother-in-law and I traipsed him all over the zoo. I do wonder, perhaps his idea of monkeys was more important to him than the actual monkeys. It does seem so to this day. I do recall from my childhood having a certain affinity for a dog named Scooby Doo. I did love my dogs that I had, but compared to Scooby Doo (in my childhood mind), it just wasn’t as personal.

Regardless of our embedded ideals, there is an age old concept or adage for monkeys that we all know. We are all familiar with the proverbial “monkey off your back”. We may say variations of the phrase, depending on context and usage. Generally speaking, this points to a weight placed on us. Some sort of pressure or responsibility in our life or the immediate circumstance. We will even help them mount the monkey on our back! In my avid sports fan-ism, I have heard the phrase many times. It usually refers to some achievement not yet accomplished like winning a championship or a certain game/defeating a certain team. A prime example, for instance, was when Lebron James had yet to win a championship. He was highly accomplished, physically freakish, and everything but a world champion. A few titles later, that monkey has long been buried!

Whether it’s work, relationships, or sports… We are all able to see these pressures. A good and well-meaning person will sometimes take on false burdens from other people. Thinking it helps the other person, and adding even more weight to their own! There are other shifty characters yet who will shift the responsibility to others whenever possible. One will do it because of laziness, another because of the ability to do so, and others still just trying so hard to alleviate the pressure. The Word of God is very clear that we are to bear our own burdens. We are wired to be in balance.

Whether you believe in God as I do or not… People all around your circle can and will put monkeys on your back. I haven’t found it in my experiences to be all or none, put more on a case-by-case basis. For us who believe, we seek answers for clarification from God. All of us though should ask good questions to our self. I think each of us has been in a situation feeling like “I am putting lipstick on someone else’s pig!” People will sometimes question your heart because you don’t want to fall in line with their proposal.

2 Loveracity: Case File Mind vs. Heart

Veracity is one of those prism words that reflects meanings dependent on your view. My favorite meaning for this thread is ‘habitual truthfulness’. The example uses a person running for political office, but let’s focus on love instead! We all can think of a person we know who seems to thrive on the drive. A motivation that even we can’t quite grasp why! A good example is Olympic sports. Many of us enjoy the Olympics for different reasons, some of us are not even big sports fans. I purport that anytime your mix love of country and sports you can gather a good crowd. Add personal interest stories and bylines for good measure. These athletes have a habit of performance in their training that has created an ability to perform at high levels…a piece of art in motion. Every sports fan remembers the beauty of Michael Jordan full speed in 3 steps planting his leaping step on the top of the key and flying through the air to slam dunk! I am still at best a casual basketball fan, but he was something to watch in his prime. He had a habit of more than performance, it was a habit of greatness! Anyone who knows anything about him knows one thing for sure: the man had a driven-ness. We are called as believers to have that drive in our veracity!

Many church goers would say that habitual truthfulness comes from reading the Word…I disagree here. Habitual truthfulness comes in our habit of relationship in Him. It cannot be in any task that is affected by our past spiritual tutoring or ‘church’. It can only come in our prayer closet, our quiet time with Him. Most believers regurgitate something they have been taught and have yet to hear or receive anything from Him directly! Ok, stepping off of your spiritual toes now. It points back to an all-time favorite song of mine…the song is hardcore truth and fun. “You can only possess what you experience, you can only possess what you experience, Truth to be understood, must be lived, you can…” are words by Charlie Peacock. What is funny to me now is that when I was really into that song originally I had experienced very little truthfulness. I possessed no knowledge or experience in the Holy Spirit! Ironically most ‘Trinitarians’ do not live a 3 fold life. Sadly, most do not believe He heals today, which is the #1 thing Jesus did in His ministry. If I keep going here some will say I have lost my mind…I say good, it has led me astray most of my life anyway until Holy Spirit took full control!

Speaking of the mind, the entirety of this thread funnels through it! Like it or not the Holy Spirit needs a good mind to work through…and a good heart. Jesus knew how the Pharisee’s thought because it was their heart. How did it get into their heart? Through their thinking, their minds absorbing it listening to other brainstems! This was the way Satan warped the Pharisees, by taking a ‘good’ thing and wearing it out! You like the Ten Commandments? Let’s add hundreds more to make it ‘better’! This is why the Bible is clear to ‘renew your mind in Christ’. It is so our hearts can receive better things to be filled with. What fills our minds will eventually trickle down to our hearts. For those old enough to remember the 80’s political scene, this is a truthfulness of trickle-down economics! It is a control the minds, control the hearts war that every human has around them. The Enemy of God wants to steer our mind to gain control of our hearts (and the spirit follows).

The mind and heart are in relationship. When we hear from Him He speaks to our mind and heart together, it is the warmth of the Holy Spirit we can actually ‘feel’ sometimes. He doesn’t want us to renew our minds to ‘toe the line’, but to be in better relationship with His voice (that is a shout out praise moment there!). Every mental health issue is just an attack of the enemy, all because he hates us (because he hates God). The mind and heart are no longer in a positive relationship, but actually the mind turns against the heart negatively. Forms of this are religiousness, self-righteousness, hatred, and really any extreme deviation from His ultimate relationship of Holy Spirit and mankind.

Have you ever been around a person who continually speaks of problems and expresses an overall negative tone? I not only have met plenty, I have worn the black coat a few times. We have all been drama kings and queens for a day in our life…haven’t we? For those who know me or the writing vibe, ‘hey that reminds me of a song!’ “There was a black flag on my morning, there was a black flag on my day, there was a black flag on everything around me and I was walking backwards again…” (King’s X-‘Black Flag’). Not to be forgotten in this mind and heart is an evil accomplice…aaahhhh yes…that declarer of doom and despair…the tongue! Our heart cannot hide what our tongue confesses. By the time a negative confession rolls off the tongue it has all traveled through several spheres of influence.

It only takes one bad confession to affect our whole day. Are we speaking life or death into our lives? I know that I talk into things that should have been left alone. I am so frustrated with myself when I do that and have to repent quickly to move on or it bites me in the rear. The fruit of our words have power to shape the pathway for not only us, but others. Choosing our words carefully for everybody is key, but for our closest loved ones/family is super critical. It begs a question: ‘What are people who speak negativity feeding their minds?’ I know for me a big one that He led me away from was the news. Your ‘brand’ doesn’t really matter if all of it is feeding the negative.

In the following months after surrendering my news junkie lifestyle, I noticed a feeder tube of negativity removed! In that still small voice I heard “you can eat a Twinkie everyday too if you want to, but it is junk food and not healthy for you”. The news can have you heavy with worry as a Twinkie can just have you heavy! While politics and news (even following prophecy news) is permissible, what are we doing to the love of God (in us) in the process? I am a talk radio guy too…now it is just sports or sermons, but it used to be a boat load of politics. Talk about negative confession affecting my day! In learning more about ‘who I am’ I found that the combative talk of the hot topics of the day were not productive to my day. I listened to a good 15 years of political talk (some might question the use of good in this sentence), but for the last 3 or 4 I have not done that or news. I would challenge you to detox it and enjoy the difference!!

Loveracity

The greatest love that exists in all of life is in what Christ did for us. He died with no benefit for Himself doing the ultimate selfless act. The Father in His will saw that giving up His Son (who could have lived forever on earth?) gave every human being access to relationship with their heavenly Father!! If not said sacrilegious(ly), Jesus was anxious to do one thing… give away love! He found female Samaritans, prostitutes, short tax cheats (and a regular one for His 12!), and many other societal outcasts! The true love of Christ overcomes all boundaries and obstacles. In most churches today that would be a problem! “He must be emotionally imbalanced” or “He must be receiving tithe and getting rich, look how He has drawn in all these money guys” or “look at this collection of outcasts, good luck getting them all into the Temple!”.

In our love relationship with Jesus we are afraid to ‘be a mess’. We have to pull it together so we don’t look bad at church or with our friends. We have to be able to genuinely smile and say how great things are going, etc. One ‘not so deep’ reason that True Love through Him has not taken over the earth is…people are stupid! Let’s face reality, ‘there be’ stupid everywhere (some of it even has holy names on it)! You can’t see this on paper, but I paused there for about 30 seconds to raise my hand. I have even agreed to stupid things so dumb that by the time I saw it written on my forehead even that was backwards!! We often try creating something instead of just worshipping Him. Maybe we create to hide our blemishes…our problems.

What if the people at the tower of Babel had just loved instead? Could you imagine how much less work would be involved in spreading the Gospel without any language differences? Think about the huge task it has been for hundreds of years in translating the Bible into the languages. Those in that day could not have foreseen the impact of their idolatry. Just some holy wondering here, but I wonder if the opposite of love is really idolatry first. Could it be that idolatry traps our heart first and develops into hatred? Not that this can be proven, but I further wonder if this act of idolatry shaped human history second only to Adams whoopsie (the Cross aside). Can you imagine what humanity missed by the languages increasing? What if love had gripped them to worship the Creator forever changing history?

I see a relationship through Him to Jesus that flows on to every believer. IT is foundational for true Church, the gifts of the Spirit, and all that is the Gospel! Love came through Jesus as the foundation for salvation (hello simple man John 3:16), all true freedom (set in each person’s heart), and even natural human love. I sometimes wonder if Jesus had not come how human love survived another 2000 years!! Humanity still nearly wiped itself out in the process. I am sure I am not the only person reading this that has been in a church that has more mean than love. Judging ain’t no gift of the Spirit! If love is the foundation of our lives, does He want defenders or lovers? In the last days what does He say will happen? “…the love of most will grow cold” (Matt 24:12 NIV).

What is the veracity of love (the habit of Truth)? In other words, what do we sow for the reaping of His love? When I think of the word veracity I see a driven-ness with it! He places love in our spirits for others to receive. He cultivates love for others in us when we come to Him and lay all that gets in the way at the Cross! Veracity for a believer is faithfulness, righteousness, and Truth. What we need is love pushing that in us! If anything else drives the veracity of our faith we end up like many in a Defenders of the First (any name here) Church (if you don’t believe this way, why are you here?). Maybe you have wanted to feel safe and protected at Thine Eminent Shelter House of God. Without love we all create idolatry in our churches…you know…Grace in Your Face Baptist style! He doesn’t need kingdom built, He needs lovers wanting to love!

Ephesians 1:4 at the end into verse 5…”…in love He predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ…”. That means everything that IS roots in absolute love first. Our faith, salvation, adoption, predestination, anything that IS roots in love!! Love sounds easy doesn’t it? Let us face what we are…fickle. We can’t go on feelings, yet we feel Holy Spirit when He comes. We can’t live on common sense, whose shall we follow? Anything not fueled by His love is prone to the same…failure. Our love for people should be obvious to the casual observer, but often we are distracted in our own little world of struggle. It is why brethren, He clears out space in our heart for only Him (who is all love). He needs that space to have overflow for others and even a good love for ourselves.

In my own journey I see an increase in the need to love others more. Love opens doors to people’s hearts to see what He sees in them. He wants to show us all He wants to do for others, but we must ask to see what He sees…not to get credit for what we have done for Him. I declare for each one reading this your love in Him overflow and you receive a revelation in Him that increases! I pray His love find you where you are today and seize your heart!!!

Body Imaging

Much can be heard in different circles of believers about the function of or the working of the Body of Christ/Bride of Christ. The newly formed clans of New Testament believers were never thought of in hierarchal form, but in a self-sustaining group of nourished believers. It never was set up around one man and growing the group larger, but to feed each believer within. The original intention was for each part of the body to feed the body. Understand this is not a set up or platform for debate, but to share what the Lord places on my heart about it. My calling is to the Body and how He speaks a word to other believers and their leaders.

Are we not highly limited striving to convince others to join our bend or theological leanings? How is each of us DESIGNED to feed the Body? Should we not be bringing petitions before Holy Spirit to find out what He wants? What could be a better form of destiny than have the Spirit lead you/inspire you to find what He wants today? I truly see the Body best served when believers are overflowing with him BEFORE the meeting even starts! We are designed for spillover! Doesn’t mean it’s always achieved, but for far too many believers, it isn’t even on their mind. They often go to church ‘to get filled up’, when in reality it should be a time of abundant spillover.

In looking how Jesus lived, He never looked to become filled…He just needed recovery time to receive more. We have often heard it said at Christmas time, it is better to give than to receive. Within the Body, our thinking needs to shift from getting filled up to giving. We do need times of refreshing, renewal, and deep worship. Rest, time in the Word, and these other elements are not overlooked here. There are times when we need a word, some good worship, and some time to receive. We each fill a role in the Body designed to give to the Body, and for the Body.

Notice further in the life of Jesus that He did not give openly all the time. His Father told him when to do what. In some respects I like the phrase ‘you can’t out give God’, but you can struggle to pay for things He never ordered! There is a snippet that He gave me recently, it is… The Body is designed to bring food, not sneak it! It is important that we seek Him to find out what He wants to invest in. We are really not designed to be followers, but seekers. Before Jesus was in the manger, there were three wise men seeking Him! Cloud by day, fire by night, and the star or all physical manifestations of seeking Holy Spirit. While we are designed to bring food, we aren’t supposed to set up a grocery store.

Every part of the Body is unique unto itself – each part has its own duties, and cannot do another parts duties – only supporting the other parts and encouraging the journey. We all know story David and Goliath. David comes in from the sheep herding and starts talking to King Saul. Saul says to him ‘hey boy, this guy is 10 feet tall and you ain’t. You’re gonna need some of my armor.’ Some Jeff translation for your enjoyment. Notice God did not have David where someone else’s armor to fight the battle. The Body of Christ is very similar. 1 Corinthians 12:29-30 says “Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret?”

If we get too enamored with others gifting’s, we cheapen the ones He gave us. Undoubtedly some part of our journey will be discovering who we are in the Body. Any time the focus is on people and ministries, it takes away from Him. It should always be at the Holy Spirit will affirm what anyone speaks into our life. It should never have any flavor from their food! While good teaching helps, good learning is better. Everything real comes from the Spirit! All the food that we bring to the Body should be overflow from the Holy Spirit. If you try to take on too many of the above seven gifting’s, the enemy will oblige in keeping you busy. I’m going to have to amen that one myself! In summary, we are designed to fulfill our role in the Body and support others in their role of the Body.
